Dread-Class Planet

by Jessica Federle

two suns glint off the glass

of the astronaut’s helmet

a ribbon of smoke still rises

where the ship crashed,

black against a lavender sky

the first sun dips below

distant mountains

a tree sways

through the fog of her breath,

the second sun sinks lower

the vast lake below

reflects nothing,

smooth and white as milk
