Growth Spirals
by Chris Clemens
From
cosmic
chunks came our
young tendrils testing
the viable earth for something
to grasp and all they needed was one raccoon’s nibble
before many minds twisted to
fresh intent seizing
these creatures
to dig
down
roots
but
human
bodies were
missed and they who came
to behold this fecund glory
brought too the agony of a thousand alien suns
burned the podlets murdered each one
tore up every root
fired the thralls
the end
of
our
great
growing
colony
except for the seeds
nestled in these bellies scattered
out to sprout and thrive in places far and wild and wide
finding better new ways to hide
our vast work and thirst
our sprouting
blooming
plans
