Like Learning Magic // Biopsychosocial Wizards

by Lynne Sargent

My therapist teaches me to meditate

guides journeys that I might learn stillness

in the forest of my mind.

I remember all the tales I’ve heard

all the training montages, methods of making

all beginning: with breath

                        with counting

                        with recitations

                        with embodied awareness

                        with intent.

Like magic was mindfulness all along.

And yet, I am no wizard

no matter how I practice

no matter how its imperfect expression still helps

there is no magic

there is no magic cure.
