Pulsing and Glowing
by Lena Ng
Pilot Chen pointed at the glowing mass framed by the darkness of space. My feet felt anchored to the alloy floor. The screens filled with its writhing form.
The hum of a lullaby drifted in the air. My eyes glazed and drool ran from the side of my mouth. I grasped the handle of the escape door. For an instant, the vacuum of space drowned out the lullaby before it sucked us from the ship into the cosmic abyss. I smiled as I slammed into the gum-pink blob. The cold flesh pressed into my face and chest as I was enfolded. Acidic juices burned through my cheeks. My joyous screams were muffled by the wet, maternal mass.
